Intellectual Property can be a valuable asset and understanding how to protect it will help you in your research career.  Learn why you should use it, how you should use it, when you should use it, who owns it and how to commercialise IP. This session will touch upon UQ’s IP policies, and the broader Australian and global context.

About the presenter: Michael Angliss

Michael is UniQuest’s Chief IP Officer.  In that role provides oversight on the filing strategies employed to optimise IP protection in the context of university commercialisation.

Michael has had over 25 years’ experience in the management of large patent portfolios and as a patent attorney, both as in-house counsel and in private practice.

In addition, Michael is Director of Commercial Engagement, Science.  Michael is director of ProGel Pty Ltd, a start-up company out of The University of Queensland commercialising technology relating to the encapsulation of probiotics and omega-3 for use in foods.  Michael is also a director of SMART Arm Pty Ltd, a start-up company out of James Cook University and The University of Queensland commercialising a stroke rehabilitation device.
